Growing food, tending the land, seasonal planting and harvest.

A living community in the hills of Marche, Italy. We take volunteers for three-week stays: real work across real domains, alongside people who have committed to building something together.

What you'll actually do
Honeydew runs across six areas of community life. Your first week rotates you through all of them: a full picture of what the place actually is, before you choose where to go deep.
DomainGrowing food, tending the land, seasonal planting and harvest.
DomainBuilding, restoring, keeping the infrastructure alive.
DomainCooking with seasonal produce, running a kitchen that feeds forty people.
DomainMaking things: art, design, documentation, the spaces people live in.
DomainWelcoming people, running the daily rhythm: the connective tissue of the place.
Working the hives, harvesting honey: understanding what the bees know about this land.
What lit you up?
The three-week arc
Week one
You spend your first week moving across every domain, hands in each one, building a full picture of what the place actually is before you choose where to commit.
Week two
You join the people who carry that domain, take on a real project, and start to understand it from the inside.
Week three
Stay on as a long-term resident, or leave knowing you were here and left something real behind.
Either way, the place is different because you came, and so are you.
The fifth hour · your craftYour time, your craft
Volunteers contribute four hours of work each morning across their chosen domain. Beyond that, there's the fifth hour.
It's time we encourage you to give to your own skills and creative pursuits: baking, ceramics, horticulture, painting, yoga, music, writing, whatever you bring.
The fifth hour is not free time. It's the part of the day where the community learns what you actually carry, and where what you carry becomes part of the place.
Who this is for
Honeydew is not a retreat. No programme to sit through, no workshop series, no curriculum. It's a place where people live and work together, and you're joining that, with something to contribute and something to learn.
Not shadow work, not helping, not observing. You want your hands in something that actually matters.
What it means to share a kitchen, a purpose, and a piece of land with people who aren't your family, and aren't your friends yet.
Between things, looking for a direction, or wanting to test something in yourself before committing to it elsewhere.
The rotation is designed to put you somewhere uncomfortable before you find where you belong.
Age range is roughly 18-35, though we care more about what you're bringing than when you were born.
What you receive
Growing food, building, cooking at scale, running a creative project, managing a living space. Not abstract: you'll leave knowing how to do it.
Something at Maiolo that carries your name and your work. It stays after you leave.
Keepers, long-term residents, other volunteers. Real people you'll know for years, not faces from a group tour.
Keepers who worked with you closely can speak to what you did, how you worked, and what you're capable of.
Complete the full three-week stay and commit as a long-term resident, or complete a full residential term, and we issue you a Passport: your recognised standing in the Honeycomb network of affiliated communities. It travels with you.
We're a Top Host on Worldpackers, recognised for a transformative experience open to travellers of all ages, from anywhere in the world.
